ONE:
PAYNE, straining for the CASE.
1. PAYNE/small: Mine…
TWO:
PAYNE’S FINGERTIPS on the CASE, just brushing it, as it teeters.
2. PAYNE/off/small: …mine, please, Maker…
THREE:
PAYNE’S FINGERTIPS, just managing to get purchase on the CASE. FLAMES licking at his arm.
3. PAYNE/off/small: …please—
4. SABRE/above: I think…
I suspect that, one way or another, he is about to be severely disappointed.
Payne’s and other characters’ reference to the Maker obviously means this is the Sphere’s Supreme Deity. So are the Sphere’s religious festivals called Maker Faires?
Hope it was worth dropping all the way into the hold during his preview of going to hell… And in the afterlife, he’ll find out the map case is empty.
I love good death scenes, and I have to admit this is matching any of those death scenes done by my favorite villain, basil Rathbone. basil always had that look of total surprise at the last moment.
And Payne gets his hand stomped in three… two… one… *CRUNCH!*
Why? The way his fingers are positioned here…
I am more thinking sword through the leg pinning him to the floor, to “save” him from falling into the fire.
Sabre: …not.
I guess he figures…better the fire than the Smoke. 😉
