I’m reposting from my tumblr here, because, well… it’s how I feel:

It’s a poll over at IGN, and I just learned that Lady Sabre & The Pirates of the Ineffable Aether was nominated.

Then I looked at the other nominees, and my jaw did that thing where it hangs open and if my mother was here she’d say something about catching flies that way. It’s very, very flattering to even be included with the other nominees listed. It is, genuinely, humbling.

I’m going to take a moment here and just… appreciate that. What Eric, Rick, and I are doing at Lady S. we’ve been doing now for over 18 months, and we’ve been doing it for free. We’ve not made a dime off of it as yet (though we hope to rectify that with the trade, or, at the least, cover our costs thus far). We’ve been doing it because we wanted to just… have some fun making a comic, something that has become more and more difficult to do, frankly.

I’m going to be perfectly honest: I would be gobsmacked if we won. I’d be gobsmacked if we didn’t come in dead last. I am, to tell the truth, gobsmacked when I realize people are actually reading the comic in the first place. The web is a cruel land, and it is easy to believe you’re occupying whatever small portion of real estate you’ve claimed out of sight and out of mind.

It’s nice to get a reminder that such is not always the case. Looking at the other comic-related polls they’re running, almost everything nominated is in the mainstream. I don’t think any of us working on Lady S. would consider what we’re doing “mainstream.” All the more reason I’m surprised, and flattered as hell.
