ONE:
Angle, beneath PEGASUS, looking towards the bow.
We can see the WINGS are still tucked.
The POD is being lowered into position.
In the BG, we can see the CLOUD OF SMOKE blocking the view of the incoming flyers and the Iron Crown.
NO COPY.
TWO:
Angle inside the POD, tight, as ERICH wriggles himself, and the GUN, into position. It’s a Gatling-like affair, also steam-powered.
NO COPY.
THREE:
OTS/POV ERICH, looking down the SIGHTS of the GATLING, towards the CLOUD of SMOKE.
NO COPY.
I have to admit, I wasn’t expecting a belly turret. oh my, aren’t we full of surprises today.
Now you know why we needed the specialty steambot.
I like the way this worked out with 5 panels. Nice pacing.
Oh, man, I think there are going to be some very unhappy pilots coming out of that smoke.
Especially considering how unflapped/nonchalant Eirch looks. I expect a Wellingtonian “They came on in the same old way, and we sent them back in the same old way.”
I KNOW! I would be f’ing terrified if I was sitting there looking into that cloud of smoke, with those two lights getting bigger and bigger.
He’s got a steam-powered automatic gun. He’s young. He’s immortal (see previous statement.) Of course he’s confident. His only hope for actual survival is that he’s not wearing a red shirt.
Off-white shirts that later turn red aren’t too great either….
He’s way too calm not do have done this before…a lot of times.
That and his air of having done this before…
Your strip is consistently well thought out with a great story line, and your art is awesome! Of all the strips I follow, yours is the hands-down the best!
I suddenly hear the ‘Millennium Falcon vs. TIE Fighters’ music from the original Star Wars…
That’s exactly what I was thinking… Now all they need is a turret up in the crow’s nest and it’ll be complete 😛
Great kid! Don’t get cocky!
He looks so ready to greet those fliers with 400 rpm of friendly .50 cal welcoming committees!
wow. nice twist and great buildup to this scene.
Nice design. Keeps the theme if loses the straight down coverage. We should not have Millenium Falcon level design here. No rigging or anything else in the line of fire, except the window frames.
I presume the whole thing spins to avoid the window frame issue and that is what the steam power is for. The gun itself looks hand cranked and the magazine is pretty small. I would hope the blinds are bullet proof. Up for visibility. Down if really swamped and need protection from other angles.

IGN are having their “Best of 2012” thing and Lady Sabre is one of the top nominees for Best Webcomic. I’ve already voted! Battlepug is great, but Lady S. is where my heart is. Get on over there and vote!

I’ve been out of town, and this is the first I’ve heard about the nomination! That’s awesome – and pretty damn distinguished company to be sharing, too!
You were in Vancouver, weren’t you? I’m sorry I missed you, I had fully intended on attending but…well, you know how life can get!
In the immortal words of another Han S., “Don’t get cocky kid!”
I like how it cuts from Erich’s goggles (and his confident look) in frame 4 to the “eyes” of the cloud (emphasized by the rounded brushstrokes around the lights, and canted at a similar angle) in frame 5. Like they’re staring each other down spaghetti-Western style. Is it me, or does the cloud look a little worried? 🙂
