Screen 1
ONE:
On SABRE, the GLASS again to her eye. She’s looking grave, serious. WEST is beside her, similarly serious, watching.
1. SABRE/small: Oh, Hans, you dear man…
TWO:
POV SABRE, through the GLASS. We can see the CLOUDS OF SMOKE that the rockets’ explosions have created. Blocking their view of the Iron Crown.
NO COPY.
THREE:
Stet, SABRE closing the glass again.
Slight smile.
2. SABRE/small: …that screen works both ways
I kinda remember early on in the series that West is suppose to resemble Bill Murray but I keep expecting Gilligan to be standing behind him every time I see him. Anyway, his pose is heroically awesome and he looks in every way what a captain should look like. The artwork is superb. I love how you capture the menace in her eyes. I almost feel sorry for Hans.
Ok, so I’m NOT the only one who keeps seeing the Skipper when I look at West. Phew…
The Skipper resemblance is purely coincidental. Rick did base him on someone, and I know who, but I’m not telling! It’s not Bill Murray either!
That looks like a woman with a plan!
Or 2 even.
I wouldn’t want to play poker against Lady Sabre.
If I follow Hans’ thinking, the smoke screen allows Hans’ flyers to get close enough to Sabre’s ship to inflict real damage or slow them down until the main ship arrives. Obviously, that trick only works if all the flyers expect to encounter is just Sabre’s ship and her riflemen. So what little surprise does Sabre have for the flyers?
I completely agree with YuriPup but I’d be very disappointed if Saber didn’t have all four aces up her sleeve 🙂
Hrmmm… Only four?
Also, to comment on a comment a few posts back, why is it that when some bad guy even slightly resembles Germany why do people always think of the nazis? Are people so ignorant that the only bit they know of German history is WW2 and the nazis?
in this case they are supposed to be prussian bad guys. WW1 isnt that far off from WW2, so give them some slack. Also the Nazis documented most of their actions, so obviously we know a ton about them, unlike other groups.
I cANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT PAGE………..
Kool work by the way thank u very much
Did Greg choose Drake’s name as a bit of historical irony? Sir Francis Drake could be considered in some circles as a pirate operating on the English government’s behalf. Having the similarly surnamed Miles disapprove of Sabre’s actions makes for a nice in-joke.
I wish I could claim such cleverness. Miles Drake – as well as some of the other characters – are actually named after schoolmates of my kids.
Aren’t you sorry you asked? 😀
Now I can’t decide if those kids have bad ass names or they just sound bad ass *now* because of the characters. It’s the chicken and the egg all over again.
The glowy “eyes” in the insert of panel two making an allusion to “the Smoke” as a living entity. Nice.
Great observation.
Saw this Steampunk video series kickstarter which I’ve contributed towards, & thought some might be interested:
