Day Seven
Screen 1
ONE:
SABRE at the map table, she’s got the TUBE in one hand, is fitting the KEY into its end with the other.
DRAKE and DRUM are moving closer, curious.
1. SABRE: A proper fit…
2. SFX/small: klk
TWO:
Almost stet, but DRAKE and DRUM each take a step back as the TUBE pops open, a FLASH of AETHER manifesting as the spell-seal is broken.
3. SFX/small: swshhh
THREE:
SABRE tilts the contents of the tube into her hand.
It’s a rolled-up piece of PARCHMENT, secured with a WAX SEAL.
NO COPY.
FOUR:
Close on the WAX SEAL, as SABRE breaks it with her fingernail.
The SEAL is a STARBURST, with a pair of EYES at its center.
NO COPY.
Screen 2
ONE:
The parchment, from Sabre’s POV. Laid on the table, now.
It’s definitely a map of some sort, what looks, at first blush, to be mapping contours and perhaps currents.
Rick, we’ll need to discuss this in detail, probably best to do it over the phone.
NO COPY.

Ooooo, Aether map?!
Heh- I think, somehow, that this text wasn’t checked out before being posted. The next to last line, “Rick, we’ll need to discuss this in detail, probably best to do it over the phone.” is rather a giveaway there, as is the fact that the text mentions a comment by Sabre that isn’t made in the comic.
Nice work, anyway. I enjoy your comic!
With the exception of some material that’s excised so as not to spoil the future of the story for you all, I post the scripts as-is. From script to screen is a dynamic process, and there are often occasions where Rick deviates from the script for the sake of improved visual storytelling. And Greg (and I) trust him to do so, because, for real, look at the results.
The scripts provide a nice transcript for the strips, but more importantly for us, I think, make the process of making the comic more transparent for you all. I wish I had thought to record the phone call. Maybe in a future installments, we’ll let you in on that stage of the process!
We are indeed looking at the results and we are grinning madly, and weeping with joy.
But… but… there’s no “X”!
I really like Sabre’s glee in the fifth panel.
Ooo, sparkly…
Well, if this is a navigator’s rutter showing previously unknown optimal navigation routes, then there is no X but rather, “wow, now we can make the sirius route in less than 5 parsecs” or whatever.
I like the transition from Panel 2 (Sabre showing off her prize) and Panel 3 (Drum and Drake looking like “Yeah, so?”)
Well, I’ve been wrong in all of my guesses so far, but I have to say it: Some of those ‘whirlpools’ look a lot like portals…
