Exterior establishing shot of MAINETOILLE – a small, bustling city in the Tanitin Easterly. Mainetoille began – as the name implies – as a Fueille settlement. Landlocked, but built on the shores of Lake Genevieve – it’s pretty much exploded in the last 20 years, as it is the largest settlement in the north part of the Easterly. Imagining it as an early Chicago or St. Louis might not be out of line, but the frontier element is unmistakable. A boomtown that is transitioning into becoming more than that. Architecture has a distinct Fueille influence – they love arches, the Fueille love to make an entrance – but haste and limited resources have failed to replicate the traditional opulence.
Our angle here should reveal a busy street, just shy of filthy – we’ve got tradespeople and settlers and frontiers folk and trappers and traders and lumberjacks and those people who prey on them; hustlers, swindlers, crooks, whores. Mainetoille is just this side of lawless.
In the EBG, we can see one or two of the SKYBOATS – those flying riverboats from Chapter Two – moored.
If we’re feeling particularly bold, here, we can see DRAKE and DRUM riding their horses down the street, doggedly negotiating the traffic.
Both men look weathered…it’s been a long trip to reach here.
1. CAPTION/locator: Mainetoille – The Tanitin Easterly
Exterior of Governor House. This is the most impressive looking building we’ve seen of the town thus far – really the first “proper” building constructed after the Sanctuary. One of the only stone buildings, as well – impressive, somewhat ornate-looking facade, a Fueille-influenced mansion-palace-government building.
DRAKE and DRUM are dismounting in front of the building, while a GROOMSMAN in an overly ornate – yet nonetheless dirty, despite his best efforts – topcoat takes the reins of their mounts.
OTS of a FIGURE, from upstairs in the building. This is the view from the Judge’s Office, looking down through parted curtains to the street below.
We can see DRAKE and DRUM, leaving their MOUNTS with the GROOMSMEN as they head inside.
Above DRAKE and DRUM, as they push through the double-doors to enter. Over their heads, engraved in the stone (or is it chiseled?), the words:
Grace Given to Rule and Judge
Bestowed by the Throne of Stars
