An adventure begins. It begins, of course, for our lovely lady privateer, but also for the people who have taken it upon themselves to chronicle her exploits.

Next year marks my 30th year working in comics. As you probably know, if you stay in any job for that length of time at some point you will be marginalized, nudged aside to make room for someone younger, flashier, someone who is perceived to be more in tune with the customer.

But, what if you believe you still have something to offer, that you’ve never really been give an opportunity to show what you’re capable of, what if, darn it, you’re just not finished yet?

The work stops coming in. You have a decision to make. You can take your skills to an allied field and make a lateral move. You can learn a new trade and try your hand at another line of work. Or, maybe accept that lucrative offer to become the greeter at the local Wal-Mart.

But, what if you and a friend (who just happens to be one of the best writers in the history of comics) decide to embark on an adventure? What if you set out to create a new comic, working in a genre you’ve never worked in before? What if you embrace new technology and teach yourself to letter and color your work? What if you intend to present the new idea on this digital wonderland that has become such a part of our daily lives ? And what if your friend knows someone who is a brilliant designer and has enough technical savvy to make this all happen?

Join us on this adventure and invite your friends. I promise you two things: (1) we’ll be here twice a week, every week, and (2) we’ll have fun. Remember, every adventure begins with two words:

What if…

Until next time

Rick
